MEDIA RELEASE OVNEA JUNIOR 8-BALL PROVINCIAL TITLES DECLARED The 3rd Annual Ontario VNEA Junior Provincial 8-Ball Championships weres held in North Bay at Partners Billiards and Bowling on July 15-17, 2005. Players competed from across the province in two divisions, Minor & Youth, with titles up for grabs in both singles and team formats. Charter Holders represented were North Bay’s Partners Pool Leagues who were the hosts for this event, G & G Enterprises from London, Ontario Skill Games of Toronto and Town & Country Amusements of Windsor. Youth Singles: Sal Doxtator of London won five straight matches on his way to becoming the Junior Youth Singles champion. In an all London final, Doxtator defeated fellow teammate, Evan Doxtator, in a hard fought final. Sal opened the day with a win over North Bay’s Trent Couroux then went on to defeat Cody Cox and Doug Allen, also of North Bay. In the semifinal, Doxtator defeated eventual 4th place finisher, Samantha Croft of Toronto. Evan Doxtator had wins over North Bay’s Bobby Gustafson and Dylan Dugas, Paige Rauth of Windsor, and in the semifinal, defeated eventual 3rd place finisher, Saskia Scott. In a sudden death play-off match, Scott defeated Samantha Croft to claim 3rd and 4th spots. Minor Singles:
Marc Bucais from Toronto captured 1st place in the Minor Singles Division. Bucais road to victory was an easy one as he opened the day with a win over Michael Sarazin of Windsor then defeated Bobby Marker of North Bay. In the semifinal, Bucais defeated eventual 3rd place finisher David Mondoux of North Bay. In the championship final, Bucais defeated North Bay’s Derick Girard. Girard reached the finals after defeating Toronto’s McEarl Bucais, Jesse Caba of Windsor, and then North Bay’s Josh Stoltenhoff. In the semifinal, Girard defeated fellow North Bay player Jenn Proulx who finished in 4th spot after losing a play off match to David Mondoux, also of North Bay. Youth Team Division: There were eight teams in the Youth Division. Oneida Hustlers of London started their run to the finals by defeating Tornados of North Bay. From there, they continued their winning streak by defeating Cougars of North Bay. Next, they defeated Predators, also of North Bay, sending them to the losers side of the bracket. The championship final saw a rematch with the Predators and it took Oneida Hustlers 1 set to claim the Youth Division Championship by defeating the Predators. Players for Oneida Hustlers were Sal Doxtator, Evan Doxtator and Lusky Doxtator. Predators had wins over Angels of Darkness and Tornados of Windsor before suffering their first loss to Oneida Hustlers. They bounced back to defeat eventual 3rd place finishers, Cougars of North Bay, in the semi final. Predator players were Dylan Dugas, Bobby Gustafson and Ricky Amyotte while the Cougar’s teammates were Trent Couroux, Doug Allen and Cody Cox. Finishing in fourth place were Tornado’s of Windsor with Dallon Grantmyre, Derek Sarazin, Tevin Scott and Connor Simpson. Minor Team Division: K.O. Kings from North Bay with players Birk Rennie, Derick Girard and Josh Stoltenhoff set their sights and aimed for the finals. On their way, they defeated Windsor’s J.A.M.s, Golden Cue Bandits of Toronto, Prowlers of North Bay. Golden Cue Bandits with teammates Samantha Croft, McEarl Bucais, Marc Bucais and Chris Birch, started their day by defeating A Team of North Bay, then lost to North Bay’s K.O. Kings. They rallied back to make the finals by defeating Dynamite of North Bay, Windsor’s J.A.M.s, and in the semi-finals North Bay’s Prowlers. In the finals, K.O. Kings continued their undefeated streak by easily beating Golden Cue Bandits. Finishing in third place were the Prowlers of North Bay with teamates David Mondoux, Justin Bailey and Spencer Cabot who joined the team from Windsor. Finishing in fourth place was Windsor’s J.A.M.s, Jesse Caba, Michael Sarazin, and Saskia Scott. We would like to thank the organizing committee and volunteers for the great job they did in putting this event together. Junior players were treated to trick shots and challenge matches by Mike ‘Pitbull’ Carrier who also helped raise funds for this event. When it comes to our youth, we can always count on Mike. |
