MEDIA RELEASE OVNEA JUNIOR PROVINCIAL 8-BALL TITLES DECLARED The 4th Annual Ontario VNEA Junior Provincial 8-Ball Championships were held in North Bay at Partners Billiards and Bowling on July 21-22, 2006. Players competed from across the province in two divisions, Minor & Youth, with titles up for grabs in both singles and team formats. Charter Holders represented were North Bay’s Partners Pool Leagues who were the hosts for this event, G & G Enterprises from London, Ontario Skill Games of Toronto and Town & Country Amusements of Windsor. Youth Singles: Sal Doxtator of London won five straight matches on his way to becoming the Junior Youth Singles champion, defending his title from 2005. In the final, Doxtator defeated North Bay’s Cody Cox. Doxtator opened the day with a win over North Bay’s Dylan Reid then went on to defeat Shaiana Thibault, also of North Bay. In his next outing he defeated eventual 4th place finisher Connor Simpson of Windsor, and in the quarter final, defeated North Bay’s Tiffany Wabano. Cody Cox’s road to the final saw him open the competition with a win over Blake Godard of Windsor then defeated Mario Parks-Crea of North Bay. In his next outing he lost to fellow teammate Ricky Amyotte. Once on the loser’s side of the bracket, Cox rebounded to defeat North Bay’s Kayla Dufresne. Next he beat Windsor’s Derek Sarazin, Tiffany Wabano of North Bay and Connor Simpson of Windsor. The semi final saw a rematch of Cox and Amyotte, with Cox emerging as the winner, giving Amyotte a 3rd place finish and advancing himself to the final. Minor Singles: Josh Rundle of London captured 1st place in the Minor Singles Division. Rundle’s road to victory was an easy one as he opened the day with a win over Nicole Wiley of Windsor then defeated teammate Pat Rockburn. He then defeated North Bay’s Shane Demers. In the quarter final he defeated another teammate, Scott Young, sending him to the loser’s side of the bracket. It was an all London teammate final, Young verses Rundle, with Rundle emerging as the champion To get the final, Young started the day by beating Abby Cook of North Bay, Marc Bucais of Toronto, Brian Meyers of Windsor and McEarl Bucias of Toronto before losing to Rundle in the quarter final. In the semi final he defeated 3rd place finisher Aaron Fabiano of Windsor. Finishing in 4th spot was Derick Girard of North Bay Youth Team Division: There were 10 teams in the Youth Division. Excaliber of North Bay started their run to the finals by defeating Windsor Panthers. From there, they continued their winning streak by defeating Oneida Hustlers of London. Next, they defeated Slick Shots of North Bay, sending them to the loser’s side of the bracket. They then defeated Bad Boys of Windsor in the quarterfinal. The championship final saw a rematch with Excaliber and Bad Boys and it took Excaliber just one set to claim the Youth Division Championship by defeating the Bad Boys. To get a chance at the final, Bad boys had wins over Falcons and Snipers, lost to Excaliber in their next outing then went on to defeated Cuties With Cues of North Bay in the Semi Final. Players for Excaliber were Cody Cox, Ricky Amyotte and Bobby Gustafson. Bad Boys team comprised of Connor Simpson, Tevin Scott and Derek Sarazin. Finishing in third place was North Bay’s Cuties with Cues, while Slick Shots of North Bay captured 4th spot. Minor Team Division: Young Guns of London, with players Josh Rundle, Scott Young and Pat Rockburn, set their sights and aimed for the finals. On their way, they defeated Windsor’s Mavens and Quick Shooters and Toronto’s Terminators. The final was a Young Guns and Terminator rematch, but Young Guns emerged the victor to claim the championship. The Terminators teammates where McEarl Bucais, Mark Bucais and Anthony Nicola. Terminators road to the final saw them open the day with wins over Hitmen of Windsor and Tornados of North Bay before losing their next outing to Young Guns. They then rebounded in the semi final to defeat 3rd place finisher, Going Going Gone earning a spot in the championship final. Windsor Mavens captured 4th place. We would like to thank the organizing committee and volunteers for the great job they did in putting this event together. A huge thanks to Trina Cooper from Joyland Amusements in Stratford for coming to North Bay and doing the tournament draws, schedules and stats. Trina’s help is always appreciated as is the hours she contributes in making this tournament a success. We also appreciate our Referee in Chief, Mike Carrier, for being here for our junior players.
