MEDIA RELEASE 8-BALL RUMBLE TITLES DECLARED Mixed Recreational Division: There were 12 teams in this division. Riff Raff of Toronto started their run to the finals defeating Library Loungers of North Bay 178-109. From there, they continued their winning streak defeating CTS Turtles from North Bay 179-113 and Men Of The Cloth of Ottawa 186-178. In the championship final they faced Playing Simple of North Bay and only needed the first set to claim the title, winning by a score of 182 to 161. Playing Simple lost their opening match to Men Of The Cloth 188-166 then won 5 straight games defeating The Odd Couples of Sudbury, Abandoned By Joe of North Bay, CTS Turtles and Library Loungers of North Bay. In the quarterfinals they defeated third place finisher Men Of The Cloth by a score of 188-169. Women’s Recreational Division: Cue Tease from Ottawa set their sights and aimed for the finals. On their way, they defeated Wrecked Again of Sudbury 114-65 and Four Play of Mattawa 114-97 to advance to the Championship Play Off. In the final, it was Four Play again challenging Ottawa for the title. They came up short losing the first set by a score of 127-111. Four Play had wins over The Chix of Sudbury 126-108 and third place finishers Wrecked Again 130-128. Mixed Intermediate Division: There were 20 teams participating in the mixed intermediate division. Mulligans of Sudbury captured the title defeating We Gotta Big Johnson of Sault Ste. Marie in the final by a score of 186-177. To get to the final the Mulligans defeated North Bay’s Long Shots 182-129 and Lounge Lizards 185-159. In their next outing, they defeated We Gotta Big Johnson sending them to the losers side of the bracket. They then defeated the eventual third place finisher, Pool Freaks of North Bay, by a score of 180-152. We Gotta Big Johnson had wins over Brain Farts and First Dog Team of North Bay Men’s Competitive Division: This division is for the “top guns” of pool. To make it to the finals in this competition the teams have to play well with few misses. Missing In Action of Ottawa got off to a quick start beating North Bay’s Creative Impressions, Kenelex 173-130 and Pool Hall Junkies 163-121. They then defeated Basics of North Bay 178-168 to advance to the final. Their opponnent in the final was Kama Kozzy’s of Sudbury who had to battle their way back after losing their first match. In the finals, Kami Kozzy’s won the first match 170-159 to force a sudden death game. In an back and forth game, Sudbury prevailed with a 177-168 victory. To get to the final, Kami Kozzy’s had wins over Creative Impressions 178-137, North Bay’s Chumps 172-109 and Pool Hall Junkies 185-174. They then defeated North Bay Kingsbury Carpet 173-178 and eventual third place finisher Basics 173-120. Women’s Competitive Division: In this division, Oshawa’s All Bust No Balls won three straight games to qualify for the finals. In the first set of the finals 3 Chix & A Chubby of Ottawa won by a score of 117-113 and forced a sudden death match. In the second game, All Bust No Balls bounced and won by score of 120-107. After a tournament opening loss to All Bust No Balls, 3 Chix & A Chubby went on to beat Coyote Sexy of Sudbury 127-109 and Wild Thing of North Bay 116-99. In their next game they defeated third place finisher, 8-Balls To Go of Ottawa 109-95. Hard Luck Mixed Intermediate Division: The Hard Luck Division was won by North Bay’s Charlton Freedom 55, defeating the Travellers from Sudbury in the final. |
