8-BALL RUMBLE SINGLES TITLES DECLARED


Titles were declared in four divisions during the Singles event at the 5th Annual 8-Ball Rumble on the weekend.

Women’s Bronze Singles:

Dolly Tucker from Ottawa won 4 straight matches on her way to the championship title. She advanced to the finals after defeating Sudbury players Sue Kunto 3-1, Fran Raby 3-0, Nicole Proulx 3-0 and Pauline Lee 3-2. Proulx advanced to the championship final from the loser’s side of the bracket to get another chance at Tucker. Tucker won the first set by a 3-1 score to take the title.

On her road to the final, Proulx had wins over Jen Peterson of Ottawa 3-1, Tracey Johnson of Sudbury 3-0, before losing her next outing to Tucker 3-0. She then rebounded with wins over Sue Kunto 3-0, Heidi Thibert of North Bay 3-2 and third place finisher Pauline Lee of Subury.


Mixed Copper Singles:

Claude Boulet of North Bay captured the championship title, going through the tournament undefeated until the final match. Boulet started the day with wins over Kevin Skanes of Sault Ste. Marie 3-0, Derek Dunn Of Sault Ste. Marie 3-2, and in the quarter finals, fellow North Bayite John Nixon 3-0.

The final was an all North Bay affair with Nixon and Boulet facing off again. In the first set, Nixon went on the attack and won the first set 3-2. In the second set Boulet rebounded and emerged the victor with a 3-1 score to take the title.

Nixon’s road to the finals saw him defeat Dave Davison of Sudbury 3-0, Mike Chevrier of Sault Ste. Marie 3-1 before losing his next outing to Boulet. In the semi final Nixon defeated third place finisher Kevin Skanes of Sault St.e Marie 3-0.


Mixed Bronze Singles:

In a field of 35 players, Scott McGill of Ottawa captured first place defeating fellow Ottawa player Cindy Bristow in the final. McGill got the final by defeating North Bay’s Calude Deschatelets 3-0, Sudbury’s Edwina Dokum 3-0, Rob Barr of North Bay 3-0, Cory Johnston of Sault Ste. Marie 3-1. In the quarter final McGill defeated Jason Gauthier of Sault Ste. Maire 3-1.

Cindy Bristow of Ottawa battled all day to earn a spot in the final. Bristow opened with a win of North Bay’s Shawn Gustafson 3-2 and Bob Laverty 3-1. She then defeated Chad Lahey of Ottawa 3-2 and Sam Maltese of Toronto 3-1. Bristow then suffered her first loss of the tournament to McGill and was knocked to the loser’s side of the bracket. Bristow then rebounded in the semi final to defeat Cory Johnston and get another shot at McGill.

The all Ottawa final saw McGill win the first set by a close 3-2 score. Third place finisher was Cory Johnston of Sault Ste. Marie.


Mixed Silver Singles:

In another all Ottawa final, Darren Corston and Sean Clarke faced off for the championship title. In a hard fought battle, Corston took the title winning the first set 3-1 and the final set by a 3-1 score.

Corston had a long day to get to the final. He opened with wins over Marc Carriere of Sudbury, Craig McKay of Sault Ste. Marie 3-1, Curtis Holden of Ottawa 3-0. In his next outing Corston was defeated by Sudbury’s Andy Aupin 3 games to 0. On the losers side of the bracket, Corston rebounded to defeat Mike Mallette of Sudbury 3-2 and in the semi finals faced eventual third place finisher Aupin again. This time the result was differrent with Corston handing Aupin a 3-0 loss and a berth in the final.

Sean Clarke’s road to the finals saw him defeat Sudbury’s Rob Mallette 3-2, North Bay’s Mike Carrier 3-2, and fellow Ottawa player Jim Jones 3-1. Next he defeated Dan Jorgenson, also from Ottawa, 3-0, and in the quarter final Andy Aupin 3-1.
